Kingdom Kids (1st – 6th Grade)
Can a child have faith? Absolutely! A child can “grow in faithful responses, reflect faithful parents, and be nurtured in a faithful church.” BCOC’s elementary department seeks to partner with parents in teaching children essential Biblical truths and encouraging a life of faith by building upon the spiritual foundation already in place. Jesus encourages us in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Jesus then placed His hands on the children and prayed for them. Today, Jesus is still touching and blessing children.
Kingdom Kids Director
Tricia Sheats has served as a leader in the children’s ministry since 1984. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Tulane University and completed 36 hours post graduate coursework at Texas State University in education. She home schooled her children for 8 years and taught in private Christian school part time for 13 years. Her vision is for the children’s church team to present the Bible as the living, valuable, thrilling Word of God and to routinely give the children a consumable portion of the Word that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Tricia currently leads the elementary program at BCOC and assists in the administration of the children’s program.
Our Children’s Church services are patterned after adult services. Along with anointed praise and worship, we introduce a memory verse and a Bible lesson and show the children how to act on them with puppets, drama, object lessons, visual aids, contests, and storytelling. We often include games, prizes and crafts. An important goal of ours is to allow the Holy Spirit to have His way in our classes.
Once per month we divide the elementary children into three groups which meet in separate classrooms. This provides the opportunity for reading, writing, and crafts in addition to the storytelling, visual aids, and object lessons.
